Ananda Chandra College was established in 1942 during the turbulent years of Quit India Movement. Over the decades since then it has remained in the forefront of all the colleges of North Bengal in size, quality and performance. This college is now a pioneering seat of higher learning in the entire region of the sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The alumni of the college are now engaged in different academic, administrative and other important positions of the society. Many of them are now contributing to nation building in their respective capacities. It is a Government Sponsored College affiliated to the University of North Bengal, managed by a Governing Body under the direct control of Director of Public Instructions, West Bengal. We have produced great scientists, administrators, legal luminaries, teachers, political functionaries and bright professionals. On the basis of our achievement, the University Grants Commission, the highest authority of higher education was pleased to endorse us the category 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act to render us eligible to generous financial grant.

This college is pleased to accommodate as many as three thousand three hundred students at present, in which girls have a share of around forty percent. We are successfully running 20 academic departments consisting of 9 Science subjects and 11 subjects in the category of humanities and social sciences. B. P. Ed. and Microbiology Course, on purely self-finance system, has been successfully running since 2003. The other shining feather of our college is that we have M. A. course in Bengali. We are contemplating to offer post graduate studies in different subjects in the future. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the quality monitoring authority of higher education in India, had conferred B++ grade to our college on the basis of their physical assessment. Academic accomplishments of our student are consistently remarkable.
