The Department of English, under the supervision of Ms. Asima Sarker has a reading club that goes by the name of Bibliophile . The club began its journey on 17th May, 2022 with a ‘Meet the Author’ session where the students got a chance to meet an established author from the region, Mr.Sourish Roy, who also happens to be an alumni of the department. Since then the reading club with the motto “reading matters” have been organizing Reading Sessions (where students and teachers engage with each other in reading, discussing and thinking together) and Meet the Author sessions. As guests  of Meet the Author  the club has had sessions with  Subhomoy Sarkar (alumni) (writer, editor) , Mriganka Bhattacharya (writer), Sekhar Banerjee (Indian English poet). A sister wing of the reading club,  ‘Pen Poems’, also exists for guiding and encouraging students to write poems and perform. Members of ‘Pen Poems’ have also performed in local events like Book Fair etc. Though both Bibliophile and ‘Pen Poems’ operates through the Department of English, but, the membership to the club is open for all students of the institution. The club has members from the various Departments like – Bengali, Physics.
